Our legal advocacy service is unique and addresses unmet need – support and advocacy for an adult who: · has an upcoming hearing at the Guardianship and Administration Tribunal, or; · potentially has a hearing at the Guardianship and Administration Tribunal, or; · wishes to have an order of the Tribunal reviewed, or; · the Tribunal is conducting a review of their order. Our service provides practical support and facilitates maximum participation by the adult during these processes. We work to empower the adult to exercise their basic human rights and to assist them to put forward their views and concerns at hearing. We act within a legal advocacy framework. Ms Annelise van Deth and Ms Catherine Delaney are our legal advocacy officers. We welcome referrals from any interested party – the adult, family member, friend or a service provider. The service also offers education sessions for the community and service providers about our legal advocacy division. These sessions can be directly requested by contacting the Brisbane office on the details below. Our service is client directed, free and confidential. An interpreter can be arranged where necessary. If you would like to obtain a copy of our Legal Factsheets and DL Card please go to our publications page and you can download them or fill out our order form and fax it to our office.
